A Minogue Week

Many of you know I am a celeb addict - but never more so than with the divine Ms Minogue. It's a wee girl/celeb/musician crush I've had for as long as I can remember (including many years annoying my two older brothers singing Kylie tunes on the top of my lungs around the house, in the car, in my room, in the bathroom etc... etc...). So in honour of Her Royal Hotness finally unveiling her Aphrodite Les Foilles Tour in Brisbane this magnificent Friday, here is a very small selection of my favourite and fabulous Kylie moments...

Ooh La La...

I am an avid reader of Gwyneth Paltrow's newsletter GOOP. I love getting an inside look at her delectable life and daydreaming...what if?!

This week's issue is themed GET and has GP dressed in various outfits she likes for the UK Summer. Each one is broken down so you can easily purchase the whole look or individual pieces via Net-a-Porter.

Wow, looking this celeb-tastic has never been so easy!!

If I had GP's budget (perhaps that should be no-budget and a black Amex) these are the items I'd love to buy for Winter. Ooh La La....

A Must-Have Spicy Carrot Soup Recipe

Does anyone else feel like Winter arrived with a thud this year? Summer seemed to have been around for a while, but then in an instant it was cold, really cold. I wasn't prepared at all and got caught out on my afternoon walks a few times. So I decided to spend my weekend getting myself and the boys ready for (apparently) one of the coldest Winter's on record...

I dusted off my super cute pink Peter Alexander uggies, washed everyone's winter woolies and prepared a disgustingly large serve of my all time favourite Spicy Carrot Soup*. When all you want is a hearty meal to slurp at the end of the day, this tasty vixen won't let you down. Inside word: if you use enough chilli it'll keep you warm for a few days!!

*based on an original recipe found in Delicious Magazine, July 2003

1 tbs light olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 small red chilli, seeds removed (or 1/2 tbs chilli paste for extra kick)
1 tsp ginger
500g carrots, peeled, chopped
1 medium sweet potato, peeled, chopped
2 kaffir lime leaves
4 cups (1L) chicken or vege stock
Juice of 1/2 lime
2 tbs fish sauce
200ml coconut cream
150ml thick cream

Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat, add onion and cook for 2 minutes or until translucent/soft. Add garlic, chilli, ginger, carrot, sweet potato, lime leaves and stock. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for approx 20 mins. Allow to cool slightly then puree in a blender (or a hand held mixer works well). Season with salt and pepper, add lime juice, fish sauce and coconut cream. Mix together and gently reheat. Pour soup into bowls and top with a dollop of thick cream and another touch of pepper or nutmeg to serve.

Don't forget the crusty bread to get every last bit from your bowl. Enjoy!!

Happiness is a journey

I've been reading a few different books lately and have come across several inspirational sayings. This one struck a cord with me so I thought I'd share it with you.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination

Creative Spaces

So I'm thinking if I start taking this blogging world seriously, I need a serious work space...any excuse to get me to Ikea really!! Here are a few random pics of home offices I've found online. What do you think?

A Thai-rific Mother's Day: Review

My two beautiful boys (partner and son) decided the best Mother’s Day gift they could give me was a few hours of pure indulgence away from dirty nappies and the household chores. They were right. A massage, facial and time to myself on a Sunday afternoon was exactly what I needed!

I arrived at the Thai Essence Day Spa, an unassuming beauty and massage space in Norman Park, ready for my two hour pamper package. I was surprised how quickly the smell of oils and sound of a fountain calmed me down and made me forget about the mess I’d left back home.  After taking a few sips of green tea and filling out the necessary paper work about injuries, likes and dislikes I was raring to go.

Here comes the McQueen

While HRH Prince William and Catherine Middleton were whisked away in a helicopter for their first weekend as a married couple, I was at the newsagency buying every newspaper and magazine to satisfy my insatiable appetite for the glorious couple – in particular Ms Middleton.
I have to admit, I didn’t see this new obsession coming. When their engagement was announced, I was really pleased for them. I love a good wedding bash as much as the next chick, but excited? Nope, surely it’s just another celebrity wedding.  Oh, how wrong I was.

A red rag to a bull

I have a confession to make. I am a lead foot, or that should be, I was one. I was the kind of driver who would curse others for obeying the speed limit despite an open road in front of them. I couldn’t understand their patience and resolve to mosey along with absolutely no regard for the insane woman behind them... I would scream (in the safety of my own car of course), “Come on people, move!”

Starting new thoughts...

Welcome! Be Lost in Thought (BLT) is the result of months of contemplating on whether or not I should start a blog. Pondering each day if I should take a leap of faith and dive straight in to the unknown (on my side of things) world of blogging. What do I have to say that is of any interest to anyone? Well, eventually I decided "why the hell not" and I have to admit, I'm pretty excited! BLT will cover a range of things from what I find inspiring, to reviews of local attractions, cafes, galleries etc... to random daydreams and everything in between. One thing is for sure, BLT is a work in progress. Enjoy!
